Director of Student Achievement
 
Douglas Education Service District is one of the twenty ESDs in Oregon. Situated among the hundred valleys of the Umpqua River, the district serves 13 school districts and approximately 14,200 students.
 
The Director of Learning is a cabinet level officer providing regional leadership in effective school practices and supporting standards for district success including leadership, instruction, curriculum, cultural norms, integrated systems and structures, and family and community engagement. The person in this role will endorse and support an integrated, sustainable system that focuses on how to increase student achievement by providing the tools, process, and supports to implement and link effective school practices. The work is detailed through Douglas ESD’s Local Service Plans [LSP] for School Improvement and Programs for Students with Special Needs. In the 2007-08 budget, these programs are funded at $5,068,357. Additionally, LSP activities are leveraged with grants, enterprises and special revenues to account for an additional $12,226,703. The position will supervise four managers and other staff.
 
Qualifications:
The district is looking for a knowledgeable educator with both classroom and management experience with a preference for those with background in general and special education, and experience as a building principal. Teaching and administrative credentials are required; however, the district may employ an exceptionally well-qualified educator subject to his/her timely completion of an administrative credential.
 
The position requires the ability to lead, empower and motivate staff members, constituents, and the community at-large. It assumes professional caliber speaking and writing skills as well as warm, personal skills. In considering applications, careful attention will be paid to candidates’ focus on student achievement and how it can be best enhanced and strengthened region-wide.
 
Responsibilities:



<      Work with ESD planning and ESD school improvement and special education advisory committees; plan for and direct services to school districts or other customers/clients including county-wide and multiple-ESD projects.
<      Plan and monitor budgets, grant writing, contracts, and enterprises.
<      Communicate regularly with school districts regarding the ESD and its services, local and regional issues, and state and national issues and resources.
<      Assist the Oregon Department of Education and other state agencies in providing information and resources to school districts.
 
The salary for a 240-day contract is currently $90,123. Compensation includes the administrative benefit package.
